Hardness measurement is available in several scales and types depending on the material being evaluated and the customer requirements. Rockwell A, B, C and superficial, Brinell, Microhardness, Shore and Mohs' are available.
The evaluation of sample microstructures and metallurgical cases and the examination for potential defects during a failure analysis depend on precise and reliable metallographic sample preparation. The team at Express Testing has extensive experience in the preparation of metallographic samples including sectioning, mounting, polishing and etching. Documentation of microstructures via photomicrography is also available. The proper evaluation of microstructural constituents depends on high quality metallographic preparation and precise examination. Plating and coating thickness measurement can also be performed on metallographic sections.
A variety of chemical analysis techniques including OES, Leco and ICP are available for the evaluation of metallic materials and components.
Salt spray testing per ASTM B117 is available for exposure times varying from a few hours up to thousands of hours. Please see our Salt Spray Testing page for more information.
Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) is available for the evalaution of samples such as fracture surfaces at very high magnifications with excellent depth of field.
A variety of mechanical testing services are available including tensile testing per ASTM E8. Proof load testing of both components and assemblies in either tension and compression can be performed including fabrication of specialized test fixtures. Bend testing, torque testing and weld fracture testing are also available.
A number of different sectioning techniques are available to support activities such as failure analysis, weld evaluation and mechanical testing. Precision sectioning with a diamond wafering saw can be performed on small parts or for samples requiring examination of very small areas of interest.
Magnetic particle inspection is available for samples up to approximately 36" in length and up to 200 pounds. X-Ray examination can be performed on both small and large parts and assemblies using X-Ray film and digital documentation.
